IP Australia has an ambitious program for the presentation, interpretation, and application of data for our organisation. Our data goes back over one hundred years and is key to informing business decisions, research, and policy. The Report and Data Analyst will work closely with the Directors of the Data Engineering (DE) and the Data Front Door and Analytics (DFDA) teams. They will be responsible for contributing to the leadership of a small team of Data Engineers, SQL Developers, Testers and Analysts. The key responsibilities of this role include stakeholder engagement with internal customers to identify and document reporting needs as well as building and maintaining ongoing reports, data products and data extracts using SQL and/or Python.

Job specific capabilities

The successful candidate will possess the following:

 

  • Demonstrable experience working with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders including business users, subject matter experts, data scientists, data engineers and DevOps engineers to ensure the validity and accuracy of reporting on the AWS based IP Data Platform
  • Ability to gather and document requirements for reporting and data products from business stakeholders and translate them into usable technical documentation that can cater to both the end user and the developer
  • Experience in developing and delivering logical and multi-dimensional data models to facilitate the creation of business-specific data for use in self-service analytics
  • Ability to manipulate and interrogate data across a variety of sources (structured and semi-structured) to perform meaningful analysis and understand the relationships
  • Strong knowledge of SQL for data manipulation and extraction
  • Experience working with BI software such as PowerBI or Tableau or working closely with BI developers to build appropriate data models
  • Willingness to try new tasks and learn new skills to solve complex problems with limited technical guidance
  • Ability to contribute to the leadership of a team to create a cohesive team environment that achieves results
  • Have a proven track record of managing complex problems with competing priorities through to completion
  • Effective communication skills — verbal and written — with stakeholders to determine the scope and suitability of data requests, and how these will be prioritised within the workload of the team.
