IP Australia is seeking a motivated and energetic candidate to join the International ICT Cooperation Team within the Innovation and Digital Services Section. This role will contribute to IP Australia and the Innovation and Technology Group in building IP Australia's authority at an international level in technological fields and advancements through leadership, influence, collaboration and cooperation across IP offices.Our ideal candidate should have excellent communication and negotiation skills with demonstrated knowledge in information technology, emerging technologies or experience in ICT project management. You will be contributing to international standard development, negotiations and inter-governmental collaborations of strategic importance across a broad spectrum of technologies, it is vital that you are able to lead and deliver on priorities in a timely and considered manner.

Position Specific Duties

Specific duties of the International ICT Cooperation Specialist include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide technical advice on IP Australia’s International ICT collaboration initiatives and priorities.
  • Represent IP Australia in international ICT strategy meetings, standard setting fora, shared focus working groups, task forces, conferences, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) ICT Strategy and the Committee on WIPO Standards (CWS).

Please note: meetings are currently held virtually and often fall outside standard business hours, and in future may include some international travel. 

  • Prepare strategic briefs and policy documents to advise and support IP Australia's Senior Management team and ITG Management in effective representation of ITG initiatives and International ICT Cooperation activities.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of collaborative tools and projects, including delivery management of initiatives such as machine-to-machine communication / APIs, end to end structured data exchange, blockchain and Artificial Intelligence.
  • Act as an escalation and support point for IP Rights business systems with international data and workflow dependencies.
  • Lead the delivery of priorities under the International ICT Cooperation Strategy & Road Map in line with IP Australia’s ICT Strategy, International Engagement Strategy, and Corporate Plan.

 

Eligibility Qualifications / Knowledge Required

Successful candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both written and oral, including an ability to quickly understand new concepts, and experience in obtaining and consolidating information from a diverse group of stakeholders to prepare clear and concise reports, briefs and correspondence.
  • Proven skills in stakeholder liaison and relationship building with the ability to effectively negotiate outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of modern and emerging technology (preferably technologies outlined in position specific duties).

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Formal qualifications or professional experience in either Project Management, Information Technology, International Relations, or other related fields
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance

The following experience or skills would be desirable to have:

  • Knowledge of IP Australia core business
  • Professional experience in a similar role at other scientific/technical agencies in working with international organisations such as WIPO, WIPO systems and standard development
